Halloween '13

Well, lucky for me, the boys requested costume repeats this year.  I was more than happy to oblige.

As always, they managed to acquire an insane amount of candy.  So much so, it afforded them enough to allow for generous sentiments such as:

(little boy love letters are the best)

Theo enjoyed dressing up so much, he's decided it works year-round for him.  These are his puppy ears.  He wears them everywhere and, as "puppy", communicates only by barking and licking.

shirts vs. skins

And this is what goes down at our house most nights:

The most recent battle/wrestling match last week may have left Malcolm with a broken foot.

RB has chosen his field wisely.

Calvin has always been a bit on the competitive side.
(he's the purple guy)

So, I probably shouldn't have been too surprised when I asked how his first orchestra rehearsal went to hear it in these terms:

"Well, I beat my stand partner two times and he beat me two times.  So it was a tie.  I talked to the coach after though, and told her I really like the songs she picked out."

If only I knew where he gets this need to turn everything into a competition...

This little guy started preschool this month.  So far, so good.

This bigger, little guy also started school.

His enthusiasm doesn't quite match Malcolm's.

Calvin on the second day of school:

"Mom, I don't want to do school today.  I'm tired of it."

"Calvin, it's the second day of school.  I don't want to hear it."

"Mom.  When you get run over by a train, it's not the caboose that kills you."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"(sigh.) It means that when you start something that's going to be really long and hard, like school, it's not the last day that kills you."

too small

This will have to do for now.

Deep Thoughts... by Malcolm

After staring up at our ceiling fan for a while:

"Mom, does that thing push the wind until it falls down?"

little boy's prayer...

A sweet and sincere prayer spoken by Noah a few nights ago at dinner:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this day.

Thank you for this food.

Please help us to eat it,

because nobody likes it.

another kindergarten grad/ mr. quackers

This little guy is now an official 1st grader.  They take graduating kindergarten pretty seriously at St. Cyril's, so there was a full on cap and gown ceremony.  (Perhaps overkill, but adorable nonetheless)

So, now that Noah is moving on to bigger things, it's Malcolm's turn to don the SkyLander's backpack and head off to preschool in a few months.  He's just a little excited...

Before the school year ended, they had "move-up day", where all incoming students got to attend class for a few hours.  The night before, I was explaining to Malcolm what was going to happen, and asked if he wanted to know his new teacher's name (whom he has never met).  The exchange was classic Malcolm:

 "I already know his name."

"You do?"

"Yes.  His name is Mr. Quackers."

"No, Malcolm. Your teacher is a girl and her name is Ms. Fallen."

"No, it's Mr. Quackers.  I always call him that."

Sometimes, there's no point in arguing with this one.

the entrepreneur (or frequent wal-mart shopper?)

We found this attached to our lamppost the other day:

Oh, Calvin.

first school dance

The boys crashed our local elementary school's dance.  The younger two seemed to enjoy it most.

Malcolm was all about the spin moves while Theo went for the more subtle slow lean.

no girls allowed

"No Girls Allowed"- for the first, but probably not last, time.

Dragon Catcher

"When I come back, IF I come back, from capturing a dragon, I'll teach you how to write in 'Dragonacht' like this..."

hat, hat

Quick update on Theo:

He enjoys sledding, especially when he goes fast enough to make mom nervous.

Still into hats, red ones especially.

Big fan of chocolate.
