Halloween '13

Well, lucky for me, the boys requested costume repeats this year.  I was more than happy to oblige.

As always, they managed to acquire an insane amount of candy.  So much so, it afforded them enough to allow for generous sentiments such as:

(little boy love letters are the best)

Theo enjoyed dressing up so much, he's decided it works year-round for him.  These are his puppy ears.  He wears them everywhere and, as "puppy", communicates only by barking and licking.

shirts vs. skins

And this is what goes down at our house most nights:

The most recent battle/wrestling match last week may have left Malcolm with a broken foot.

RB has chosen his field wisely.

competitor

Calvin has always been a bit on the competitive side.
(he's the purple guy)

So, I probably shouldn't have been too surprised when I asked how his first orchestra rehearsal went to hear it in these terms:

"Well, I beat my stand partner two times and he beat me two times.  So it was a tie.  I talked to the coach after though, and told her I really like the songs she picked out."

If only I knew where he gets this need to turn everything into a competition...

school(ed)

This little guy started preschool this month.  So far, so good.

This bigger, little guy also started school.

His enthusiasm doesn't quite match Malcolm's.

Calvin on the second day of school:

"Mom, I don't want to do school today.  I'm tired of it."

"Calvin, it's the second day of school.  I don't want to hear it."

"Mom.  When you get run over by a train, it's not the caboose that kills you."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"(sigh.) It means that when you start something that's going to be really long and hard, like school, it's not the last day that kills you."

"oh."
